Statement of Proposed Research
Proposals should be written in clear, simple language that can be understood by a broad, multi-disciplinary committee. Members of the selection committee usually are not trained in your specialized field of study. These funds can support senior research if you have expenses related to the collecting of your data.
If you are working on a project that is closely related to your research mentor's work, you will need to distinguish what you propose from their work. Proposals should include:
Are you working with human subjects?
It is essential to apply early for Human Subjects approval so that you will have enough time to take and pass the test administered by the University of Arizona Human Subjects Protection Program office and have your proposal reviewed before you begin your research project. You should work with your faculty mentor through this process. You should begin this process when you submit your grant proposal so that you will have clearance before you begin your research this summer. If you will be working with human subjects in any capacity you will need human subjects clearance. You should include a statement in your proposal saying that you have secured approval or that you are under consideration. The University of Arizona has an Assurance on file with the Federal Government that requires a review of research with human subjects by the Human Subjects Protection Program office. Please contact the Human Subjects Protection Program office located at 1618 E. Helen Street. The telephone number is 626-6721.
Are you working with animal subjects?
It is essential to apply early for Animal Subjects approval so that you will have enough time to take and pass the test administered by the University of Arizona Animal Studies unit. Before you conduct your research you must complete training in Laws and Regulations, and Introduction to Animal Hazards, which you will find on the web site www.iacuc.arizona.edu/training. You should begin this process when you submit your grant proposal so that you will have clearance before you begin your research this summer.
For each category, explain in as much detail as you can, how you intend to spend the funds. Requests for supplies available through departmental resources are inappropriate. Travel expenses are limited to data collection efforts outside of the Tucson Metro area. Equipment purchased through this program must not be readily available on campus and remains property of the university. Total funding cannot exceed $1500.
For the uploaded budget be sure to include the following categories in a similar format:
